First of all, the type of faucet determines the installation method.
Currently, on the market, there are available several types of washbasins with a different installation method. These are, among others, a wall-mounted washbasin, the one with a dedicated cabinet or a countertop model. For each of them, we should choose the right type of washbasin fittings. When picking washbasins with a factory-made faucet hole it is important to pay attention to the reach of the spout and choose the faucet whose spout ends no further than in the center of the washbasin, and no closer than a few centimeters from the inside edge of the washbasin. Thanks to this, the water will not splash back after hitting the washbasin.
High or low washbasin faucet?
The height of the basin faucet is also important. For deeper washbasins, choose a faucet with a raised body, for shallower ones- a standard one. Thanks to this, you will avoid spilling the water out of the washbowl. For small washbasins, choose a small-sized, low faucet, and pay attention to the location of the handle. Before buying a faucet, it is worth trying it on a washbowl to check if the set is comfortable in use. For countertop washbasins, pick a countertop model- the one whose height is more than 22 cm and which is installed directly on the countertop. We have here a choice of faucets with both fixed and movable spouts, and with top or side handles. Depending on whether you want to install the faucet in the middle or on the side of the washbasin, choose a model with the top or side handle. While thinking of very high countertop washbasins, do not be afraid to reach for deck-mounted sink mixers that will ensure the right height, and thanks to the rotating spout, comfort of use. Filling the bowl or rinsing rain boots and other large objects will be trouble-free.
For this type of washbasin, we can also choose a wall-mounted or flush-mounted washbasin faucet installed at a height of about 25-35 cm above the top edge of the washbowl. And once again, the reach of the spout is very important so let’s try to install the spout and the washbasin in such a way as to make the water go only into the washbowl. In the set with any Laveo washbasin faucet you will find a plug, which will save you additional costs.
Three necessary steps before installing the faucet.
First of all, carefully read the instruction manual in order to install the faucets correctly and eliminate the risk of flooding. An equally obvious and essential element of preparation is getting familiar with the terms and conditions of the warranty. This document will show us how the elements of correct assembly determine retaining the right to benefit from the warranty. From the warranty provisions, we will learn, for example, that it is necessary to install filters protecting against impurities that can get inside the fittings from the water supply network, or about the need to drain the water from the water network after renovation and before the installation of the faucet (to get rid of dirt located in the installation that could damage the cartridge of your new faucet). The third necessary step before starting the installation of the washbasin mixer is closing the main water supply valve.
Installation of washbasin faucets in a few simple steps.
In order to install the washbasin faucet, screw the connection hoses into the dedicated holes in the faucet. Remember not to use additional tools for this purpose – excessive force may damage the connection hose. Then apply the gasket and screw in the threaded screw until you feel resistance. Put everything through the faucet hole and tighten it from beneath with a plastic sleeve.
Finally, connect the connection hoses with hot and cold-water angle valves. It is important to connect cold and warm water on the right side and to make them correspond to the water temperature markings (usually a red and blue dot or line placed on a handle) so as to avoid the possible risk of scalding. At this stage, you can unscrew the main water supply valve.
How to fit the installation height of the washbasin and washbasin faucet?
Standardly, washbasins are installed at the height of 80-85 cm above the floor. However, it is worth thinking about adjusting its position to our height. If we are not a statistical Smith and our height is below 160 cm or above 170 cm, we should fit the washbasin to our own needs in order to make it comfortable for us. The easiest way is to check if while standing straight you have the top of a cabinet at the same height as your hips. The exception will be people with disabilities using wheelchairs – for them, the suggested installation height is approx. 76-85 cm, so that they can comfortably rest their elbows on the washbowl. If we have the opportunity or the need to arrange a bathroom for children, the same as for us, we have to consider their height. The position of the washbasin for children can be fit with the use of the below table:
If we do not have such a possibility, we should provide the child with a dedicated platform to let it have free access to the toilet and washbasin. Then, as the child grows, you will not have to reposition the washbowl in the bathroom.
Remember! Each type of faucet may have its own installation requirements. Read the instructions before starting any work. Keep the terms and conditions of the warranty for later, they may be useful if you want to carry out maintenance works of the bathroom faucet to ensure its proper operation for many years.
