Linear drains, Advices

Wall- or floor-mounted – which linear shower drain to choose?

More and more often, especially in small bathrooms, quite space-consuming showers with a shower tray are replaced by shower cabins mounted directly on the floor. Opting for this solution entails taking another decision, namely which type of drain will be the most appropriate.

ADVANTAGES OF LINEAR DRAINS

Linear drains are undoubtedly modern design solutions which, with their minimalist form, ensure high water drainage capacity. Shower drains aid keeping the bathroom clean – it’s enough to standardly wash the floor, with no need to clean the nooks and crannies, which we normally would have to clean in case of shower trays. Furthermore, cleaning of the drain is relatively easy – the set includes a special hook for lifting the cover, thanks to which we can do it efficiently and quickly.

Linear drains are also a durable solution for many years. 304 stainless steel used for their production is extremely tough. It is resistant to corrosion and various external factors, such as more invasive cleaning agents.

Most of the models offered by Laveo are equipped with a special dry trap with a membrane preventing the backflow of water and odors, which makes this solution extremely hygienic.

The use of a linear drainage system is certainly worth considering in bathrooms used by older people or people with mobility impairments. By installing the drain, there is no need to create any unevenness on the surface of the floor to retain water. The shower is safer and more comfortable to use.

WHICH SHOWER DRAIN TO CHOOSE

When deciding on a shower without a shower tray, we have to select a drain. Currently, two types of drains are most popular on the market. The first and the most popular one is a floor-mounted linear drain. Due to the method of installation, it requires preparation of a small slope on each side of the grate, which will allow smooth drainage of water. It is important to remember that in order to achieve the correct angle, the tiles will need to be properly cut out, which may slightly disturb their arrangement on the floor.

Before buying a floor drain, it is essential to check whether it can be installed in our bathroom. Whereas in newly constructed buildings we can plan the installation in advance, when renovating a bathroom, especially in apartments located in old buildings, it is necessary to make sure that we can prepare the floor at the right angle.

Another yet relatively new solution is a wall-mounted shower drain. To make it fulfill its function, it is also necessary to prepare the floor at the right angle, but by placing the drain in the wall, we can place tiles over the entire floor surface and achieve a uniform effect throughout the bathroom. A wall drainage system has one more advantage – we can successfully use it in a bathroom with underfloor heating because its installation does not require any interference with the floor.

ARRANGEMENT POSSIBILITIES

No matter which type of drain we choose, each solution gives us at least three finishing options:

·        decorative steel grate – a universal solution that fits into any interior style,

·        black grate, as an additional arrangement detail to complement fittings in the same color,

·        grate with the possibility of inserting a tile, so that the shower drain is almost invisible.
