Kitchen with an island

Trends and Inspirations

When decorating our flat, we do our best to make our dream place absolutely exceptional – comfortable and good-looking. Each design solution should be based on the lifestyle and number of household members and the floor area. For those who cook frequently but dislike doing it alone and boast a greater amount of floor space, a kitchen island will be a good idea. The image of a modern, reasonably arranged 21st-century kitchen.

An island is a distinct space in the kitchen, situated in its central part. Thanks to its location, it is easily accessible from every side, which makes streamlines work and makes moving easier. It constitutes a spacious working area for cooking on the hob, washing the dishes or preparing meals. A double-bowl model Celia or Madagaskar granite sink incorporated into the island will ensure maximum comfort during daily cleaning.

The set will be perfectly complemented by the Rhea mixer. Apart from serving its basic purpose, the impressive high-profile spout will be a true decoration of the separate worktop in the middle of the room.
On the other hand, a mixer with a pull-out spout, such as Daru, will make it possible to wash large dishes comfortably..

An island frequently supplements the main furniture with extra space for product storage. It shortens the distance not only between household appliances, which distance you must cross while cooking, but also between household members ;). Thanks to the island, cooking together becomes a possibility and a pretext for spending time with your family. When it is only one person preparing meals on a daily basis, an open kitchen makes it possible for them not to be isolated from the other household members. The “kitchen command centre” may serve as a table or mini dining room for a quick breakfast or morning coffee. If we opt for a high island and supplement the arrangement with stylish bar stools, we will create an atmospheric bar area. A place for socialising with friends.

Kitchen islands have come to stay in modern design. It might be due to the great functionality of this seemingly unremarkable piece of furniture or the fact that today’s kitchens constitute an extension of the living room. They are not only a usable room, but frequently also the pride of the household. An island can be made from a piece of furniture with appearance identical as the rest, but there are also non-traditional solutions available on the market. If we would like our “kitchen command centre” to be mobile, all we need to do it add wheels. Such a “table” will come in handy on the occasion of family celebrations. Effective serving of a birthday cake or a display of pizza preparation? These are only some of the ideas. One popular material used by designers to create an island is raw concrete. It goes really well with muted colours and suits modern interiors where minimalism reigns supreme.

People searching for unusual solutions may wish to set the island at a different angle than the wall cabinets. A completely novel approach to the topic of modern kitchens. If the floor area makes it impossible for us to place the kitchen island permanently in our kitchen, we may hide it within the furniture and use it only on the occasion of greater culinary challenges. A simple cabinet with a wooden finish which can be concealed is a good idea for an island for an industrial kitchen. It is also possible to increase the surface area of this additional piece of furniture by using an extendable worktop. In such a case, we can completely forgo the kitchen table. A butcher block in the middle of the room? Why not! A beautifully sculpted detail which gives kitchen space unique character. And how functional it is! A kitchen island can be created from a simple high table or a chest of drawers with a concrete worktop. Or an extraordinary one, one that remembers our great grandmother’s kitchen. A piece of furniture from the previous decade will look great in a stylish kitchen and enhance the vintage effect. If we install lighting directly above the island, we will create a comfortable working area. By using glamorous crystal lamps or decorative chandeliers we will introduce brilliance and prestige.

No kitchen island will remain uninhabited. And while it might not bring respite from daily food preparations, but it will definitely make them easier and more pleasant.
