What can you do so as not to go crazy while renovating? All you need to do is think about important things rather than have your head in the clouds, and then your efforts will be green-lit and your dream interior will become more than just a dream. We will emerge victorious if we surround ourselves with colours which make us see the world through rose-tinted spectacles in our home.

Idioms are much like the colours we surround ourselves with. Commonly used expressions are rooted so deeply in us that we can’t overlook their meaning. It is similar in the case of colours. Their hidden codes play a huge role in our lives. They influence our perception of reality, well-being and behaviour. They relax, calm down – or when necessary activate, stimulate. Some surround themselves with soft hues, others with colours of the rainbow. And sometimes, at certain points in life, we need colours which reflect our current state of mind.

How does that translate into interior decoration? While decorating, you should consider colours of the earth. These are the closest to nature and timeless. They are the safest colours on the palette. When other, more vibrant colours go out of fashion, harmonious beiges, warm browns, off-greens and soft greys will still have their fans. They allow you to easily choose accessories in your favourite patterns. You can enhance a muted, “natural interior” with the help of stronger colour accents or other textures. Beiges, browns and greys go well both with warm, mustard or magenta colours, as well as cool shades such as olive and emerald. Colours of the earth are first and foremost associated with cleanliness and peace. They work really well with the eco-friendly trend of limited shapes and natural materials. They are used to provide respite from metropolitan hustle and bustle in the safety of your own home. After all, nothing relaxes quite as much as contact with nature.

The use of natural colours in the kitchen will make it possible to create a fresh and cosy interior. They will be nicely complemented by eco-friendly materials such as linen, wool or wicker. It would be good if interiors inspired by the beauty of the fauna and flora also contained gemstones, multicolour bricks or raw wood. Moreover, you can’t forget about plants. Solutions based on nature. At the same time, we must remember about the innate need of every one of us – access to light and space. If we live in a small and poorly lit area, we may want to make use of some tricks. The use of light colours, forging heavy curtains, as well as adequate lighting are design tricks which will bring us closer to the desired effect. Nature-inspired colours are a wonderful background for many different arrangements. Beige can be combined with ethnic motifs and animal accessories. This will create a tropical climate. A country kitchen? A dominant, warm shade of brown, which immediately evokes associations with the beauty of wood and delicious chocolate, will be perfect.

Earthy shades will emphasise the connection with nature and darker hues will introduce more elegance. They will be suitable for lovers of the Provençal and classic styles. If you like browns, you can also try ceramic tiles – both floor and wall tiles – which imitate wood. A true nod to nature. Greys harmonise with Scandinavian kitchens, with white furniture in a matt finish and minimalist decorative accents. Alabaster components will reflect light, making the interior appear more spacious. Kitchen fronts in a dark finish are the most modern version of elegance. Furniture becomes more pronounced against light walls, while greys introduce peace into the kitchen. Accessories in a different colour will emphasise the monochromacity of the decor. If you would rather stick to greys, you should consider various textures. In this way, you will avoid uniformity. A perfect solution for kitchens in pastel colours will be granite sinks with a subtle finish. No matter if white, beige or black – they will integrate seamlessly into nature-inspired interiors. Blues in the kitchen? Neutrality which fosters relaxation. If we add the trendy gold, copper or brass to the arrangement, we will have an elegant interior with a dash of glamour. The use of blue will decrease your food cravings. A perfect solution for those watching their weight. Calming greens will go well with rustic kitchens. Combined with a unique ceiling lamp, furniture with light-coloured veneer, unaggressive design and soft fabrics they will create a comfortable, cosy atmosphere. However, this is not the only inspiration. In fact, there are as many arrangement possibilities as there are shades of green.

Wood veneer is worth considering in the context of kitchen arrangement. Furniture made of this type of wood will retain its original shape despite pervasive humidity and harsh chemicals. It is also a good idea to buy versatile wall paints for use in kitchens. The place of meal preparation has recently become an extension of the living room, which is why we take great care in decorating. However, we need to remember that design is not the only thing that matters – there is also functionality. A kitchen is primarily a usable room. Places such as the worktop, the space above the hob and the sink area call for special protection against stains and damage.
A nature-inspired colour palette, eco-friendly materials and practical accessories which also serve as decorations are a recipe for a kitchen which will be a true retreat, one the closest to our nature.
