3 surprising things you wouldn’t think of but are worth having

The world, although completely familiar to us, for children is a training ground for collecting experiences and discovery. Because of their curiosity, children get into trouble many times or even teeter on the brink of danger. So what to do to open the way for them to get to know the world, and at the same time providing them with maximum safety? Here’s a few suggestions which will be useful for both parents of babies and of a little older children…

House. This is the first place of exploration of a little discoverer, and inside the house, there are many interesting things which should not necessarily be the central point of his or her cognitive process… But try explaining it to your child! No chance! Edges of furniture, drawers with knives, closed door, e.g. to a garage in which there are tools fro DIY or water in a tap – a perfect way to make a fountain flooding half of a bathroom: all the things acting as a magnet for kids! The more caution and bans made by parents – the bigger temptation to try the forbidden fruit.

Dangerous furniture

There is no house without edges. Actually, probably nobody in the world has hit on the idea to furnish one’s own flat with rounded furniture. One thing is that it wouldn’t have anything to do with being functional, and the other that it would look at least dubious. Meanwhile, babies learning to walk make their first steps with the assistance of the furniture, not mentioning that when they become quite good at it, the “don’t run” caution uttered in a furnished room sounds for them so foreign as speaking fluent Esperanto. Therefore, companies producing accessories for children offer quite a selection of silicon covers for securing furniture corners. But whoever used them knows that the kids need less than a second to remove them. Therefore, when buying protective corners for furniture, one must add to them an adhesive tape of a better quality than the one included in a set, e.g. a super-strong, double-sided mounting tape 3M or Tesa.

Forbidden door

Behind each door which with a house are always locked there is a growing children’s curiosity hiding. No matter if these are external doors or gates, garage door, or to a home mini-workshop – a child will always want to open them, only to see what is being hidden from them. “It is not difficult to figure out that there is a high probability of an accident.

Emil Myszka, specialist in Kuchinox door systems.

With small kids and rooms full of dangerous objects – it is very important to equip the door with a Yale lock”. “When installing Yale locks in a house, you may always go one step further and invest in an integrated system securing the whole house which will serve first your child, then a teenager as well as the rest of household members.” “The system is called Mul-t-lock and it allows to grant authorisations to different members of the family in the scope of access to specific rooms, and it is programmed in… keys!”, says Kuchinox specialist. “Such a solution serves for years, and when a child grows out of curiosity about everything in the world and narrows it down to e.g. the automotive one – the system will prevents him or her from experimenting with his or her parents’ car by not being authorised to access the garage door with the key he or she uses.

Water games

Kids love playing with water. Never-ending hand-washing after which half of a bathroom is flooded is normal in houses where two- or three-year-olds live. A seemingly trivial activity may, however, be dangerous, e.g. if a child opens a hot water tap and scalds itself or get scared falling off a footrest or a chair on which it climbs to reach the sink. This is why in houses where a child strives to be independent and uses a sink without the help of parents one must have thermostatic mixer taps installed. Why? Because they never surprise you with an unexpected temperature of water! Once set to a specific value (most often it is 38 degrees Celsius), they maintain it from the start through the entire time it is used.

Marcin Szymke, product manager of Laveo mixer

“In Laveo, we have created the whole line of such mixer taps dedicated for parents with small children. This is our Thermico line, ensuring maximum safety when used by children."
A smart house is a house where children are given a freedom to get to know the world, however, with a certain measure of mistrust according to the rule: better safe than sorry. Thus, in order not to limit the children’s freedom of cognition, and not to suppress a child’s curiosity – it is worth applying certain measures thanks to which discovery of the new will not be dangerous and, at the same time, the children will not be limited in any way… All the more because these few things you could read about above are either relatively small expenses or investments for long years which would also make the lives of the rest of the family members easier.
